FAKE APPLE STORES IN CHINA

Apple iPhone 5 - This was a total Apple store rip-off. A beautiful rip-off -- a brilliant one -- the best rip-off store we had ever seen. Being the curious types that we are, we struck up some conversation with these salespeople who, hand to God, all genuinely think they work for Apple," said an anonymous American blogger on Wednesday.

Customers at an apparent Apple Store in the Chinese city of Kunming berated staff and demanded refunds on Friday after the shop was revealed to be an elaborate fake, sparking a media and Internet frenzy.

Two days after the blog post has stirred up a worldwide attention to the fake Apple Store, industrial and commercial authorities in Kunming to launch an inspection not only on the alleged Apple Store, but on all the city's electronics stores, reports a Chinese news outlet Xinhua.

The inspection includes business licenses, authorized permits of brand use, and the purchase channel of each store, said a worker with the city's industrial and commercial department, said Xinhua. Its result will be announced soon.

The whistle blower who broke the story has received one million views on her blog within the first 72 hours.

"Reuters is claiming that the story has been picked up by nearly 1,000 media outlets - and I can tell you that I have personally been contacted by every major news source in the US and Europe, included the AP, AFP, CNN, BBC, ABC, NBC, and other similarly acronymed outfits," said the blogger of BirdAbroad on a new post on Saturday.

The fake Apple Store is located in the southwester Chinese city of Kunming, Yunnan. A store employee confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that the store is not even an authorized Apple reseller. According to the salesperson, products in the store are genuine Apple products sold at the same prices as advertised on Apple's website, reports the Journal.

"It doesn't make much of a difference for us whether we're authorized or not," he said. "I just care that what I sell every day are authentic Apple products, and that our customers don't come back to me to complain about the quality of the products."

"When I heard the news I rushed here immediately to get the receipt, I am so upset," a customer surnamed Wang told Reuters, near tears. "With a store this big, it looks so believable who would have thought it was fake?"

Apple iPhone 5 (or the iPhone 4S, as some are calling it) rumours are flying thick and fast already.On 20 April 2011, it emerged that the iPhone 5 release date may be September 2011. This date was cited by three sources who spoke to Reuters.

According to the Chinese Economic Daily News (via AppleInsider), with the exception of Qualcomm chipsets - which would replace the current Infineon chipsets in the iPhone 4G - Apple's sticking with the same suppliers for the 2011 iPhone apple 5 components.

We'd expect the basics of the iphone 5 specs to get a bump - more memory, faster processor, and more storage. The A5 dual-core ARM processor from the iPad 2 is extremely likely to be included.

The specs? A new antenna, 1.2GHz processor (possibly dual-core) and a larger screen: 3.7" instead of 3.5". The iPhone 5G may also be made from a new kind of alloy, or maybe meat.

Rumor on the iPhone 5 release date is that Apple's fancied next-generation iPhone will not probably be launched on Sept. 7.

And it looks like it's a logical guess. First, there is no point in releasing iPhone 5 without loading it with the iOS 5 as competition in the smartphone arena is really hotting up with several Android phones ready to roll out daunting features. A new iPhone version in September, which does not have commanding new features promised by iOS 5, will be a lame duck.

And iOS 5 is not ready to roll out until fall, according to Apple's own clear statement at the WWDC this month. Fall sets in, in the third week of September and it refers to a time frame until November end. If Apple gets iOS 5 ready later in the fall, then iPhone 5
will have to take the lag as well.

Since Apple has been working on its next-generation iPhone, new rumors are emerging every day over its release date.
Earlier, the device was expected to be released in September. But, now a report says that Apple may launch apple iPhone 5 in October, instead of September.

Another rumor suggested that the apple iPhone 5 will feature a SIM card slot for other countries except the U.S. This will allow users to insert any SIM card in iPhone when traveling abroad.

Now, the recent patent filing of Apple suggests that those rumors could see the light of the day very soon.

Apple’s patent application (12/765648) for configuring any mobile wireless communication device to support multiple carriers was published on August 11, 2011 (filed on April 22, 2010).
In this configuration, Apple has decoupled the subscriber identifier values from the operational parameters specific to a wireless service provider.

This implies that the user can use the same device at different times with different carriers. For example, the user can subscribe to a primary carrier at home and to a secondary service provider while traveling.

Citing sources in Apple's overseas supply chain, DigiTimes reported on Monday that the so-called "iPhone 5" will "not have many differences" when compared to the current-generation iPhone 4. The largest difference will be a metal chassis on the back, replacing the reinforced glass found on the iPhone 4.

"The sources added that the apple iPhone 5 will adopt a 3.5- to 3.7-inch panel with a design to allow the bezel of the panel to become thinner and make the screen look larger," the report said.

The report also dispelled what was clearly a fake video that has circulated on the Internet, claiming to show a "leaked" website from Switzerland for the iPhone 5. To date, the bogus video has received more than 1.8 million views on YouTube.

Rumors surrounding Apple's next-generation iPhone have been have provided conflicting reports, creating confusion as to whether Apple's next handset will sport an all-new design, or have an appearance similar to the iPhone 4. A report in March from China Times was the first indication that the so-called iPhone 5 will allegedly have a metal chassis, though that report suggested the handset will sport a 4-inch screen.
